Belgian born Monica Vanden Burghe is an internationally renowned ‘floral designer’. Her work includes four books, including the highly praised ‘Flowers in Love’, contemporary and unique floral designs ranging from bridal decoration to funeral displays and the creation of floral based art installations, teaching and demonstrations for international events and clients. Her art-fuelled world has taken her from Mexico and Japan to the USA, Ireland and the UK.
With a deep passion for nature and the environment, Vanden Burghe’s creations are inspired by her truth, bringing about her unmistakeable ‘floral palette’ and her experimentation with ‘upcycling’ and recycling. Reimagining and repurposing discarded and valueless materials, such as cardboard and rubber, led to her latest design collection, ‘Recircled’ and ‘Recycle’ and this innovative mind set is just part of what makes her work so great. Beauty home accessories, not just for aesthetic purposes, but for eco-friendly ones too.
Her bicycle tyre vases for Serax have become iconic across the Serax brand and provide a perfect example of Vanden Burghe’s groundbreaking and inventive artistry. Suggesting the organic forms of water and foliage, they seem to defy the solidity of their own forms. Instead, these absorbing shapes and lines create the illusion of something as insubstantial as a moving stream, as fragile as a leaf.
